Art & DT
We love Art at George Washington Primary School! From printing to painting, drawing to decoupage, we try our best to produce wonderfully creative masterpieces.
In Reception we enjoy working in the creative area where we can choose our own resources and make whatever we want! We also love to work with our teachers. We always including Art in our learning journeys (topics) and having fun learning new skills, using different mediums.
In Year 1 and Year 2 we also enjoy working independently in the creative area. There are always so many brilliant resources to choose from……we let our imaginations take over! In addition to this we also like to learn new skills and experiment with mediums and styles, with the help of our teacher. Our Art lessons are always linked to the topic, adding creativity and diversity.
In Key Stage 2 (Years 3,4 and 5) we sometimes have full Art afternoons! It’s much better that way so we can develop and improve our work in only a few days. We often link our topic-based art to a famous artist to enhance our learning journey.
Year 6 block some of their art work in the Autumn and Summer Term and enjoy art linked to a variety of topics.
At George Washington Primary School, we follow the national curriculum for design and technology. During our work on design and technology we aim to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding of our pupils so that they are able to participate successfully in a technological world. We want them to become more creative and practical and to be able to utilise a range of technical skills that will serve them well in the future. We believe that it is important that our pupils are able to critically evaluate their own work and make improvements. We also want our children to be able to understand the need to eat healthily and to develop their cookery skills.
In Design Technology, the children’s work is based around five content strands:
- Technical Knowledge
