PSHE

PSHE education is a planned programme of learning through which children and young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives. As part of a whole school approach, PSHE develops the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society.

Through our high quality PSHE provision, we aim to support pupils to:

  • Develop confidence and responsibility and to make the most of their abilities
  • Prepare to play an active role as citizens
  • Develop a healthy, safer lifestyle
  • Develop good relationships and to respect the differences between people.

PSHE is taught as a discrete subject as well as through cross-curricular topics.  Provision for active involvement in the life of the school and wider community is also used to help our young people recognise and manage risk and take increasing responsibility for themselves and their choices.  The PSHE curriculum at George Washington Primary School is an implicit part of the school’s provision and is taught in both a structured, progressive and forethought way, as well as that which is reactive to individuals and events.

See below for the curriculum overview for PSHE.
