Vision and Ethos
We are a large primary school in Washington in the north east of England. Our school was built in 2002 and we have fantastic facilities on site.
We have our own swimming pool, tennis courts and MUGA as well as a huge field with football pitches and a developing forest which we use to learn in.
Learning is very important to everyone at George Washington Primary school and is central to everything that we do. We know that although our lessons are important and our teachers make them fun, we don’t just learn when we are in lessons but that learning takes place all of the time, whatever we are doing.
We learn in different ways because we go lots of trips and have visitors in school regularly to support our learning. We are developing our own forest learning site on part of our school field and are looking forward to taking lots more of our learning outdoors. We love to share what we are doing by performing for each other, our parents and the wider community through shows, assemblies and special events. Family learning is also important to us at George Washington Primary school and we hold open morning where families come in and work with their children in class as well as family learning courses where children and their families can work on bigger projects. A recent project saw the creation of our Washington 50 mosaic, which is now displayed in the main entrance of the school.
We also have lots of chances to show how we care for our community and for others through our involvement in community events such as the Washington Heritage festival and through our charity work and fundraising events such as Children in Need, the shoebox appeal and raising money for Grace House during our Christmas performances. We enjoy working with our local church and old people’s homes to help us understand the value of our community and our place in it.
