EYFS Curriculum

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is the framework that sets out children’s learning and development from birth until the end of the Reception year.  It gives children a broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

The EYFS covers seven areas of learning: Communication and Language; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Reception Yearly Overview

Chinese New Year

We enjoyed learning about Chinese New traditions. We had a big celebration where we tried different Chinese foods and had a parade using a dragon we made together.

Forest School

We made bird feeders at forest School.

Gibside Christmas Trail

We followed the Christmas Trail to help Mrs Claus find Santa’s lost reindeer bags. At the end of the trail, we toasted marshmallows over the campfire.

Christmas Nativity

Little Buddies

Our partnership with Donwell House Care Home is an important part of learning in reception. Both the children and residents love seeing each other and working and playing together each Friday.

Halloween Spooktacular

We had a great time at our Halloween Spooktacular. It was lovely to see so many parents and carers at our workshop.

Walworth Castle Birds of Prey Centre

As part of our Into the Woods topic and the story Owl Babies, we visited Walworth Castle Birds of Prey Centre. It was amazing to see the birds close up!

The Gruffalo Visits Reception - 24th September 2019

We couldn’t believe our eyes when we discovered enormous footprints in the classrooms today! While we were searching the school, we found brown fur and purple prickles. When we checked the cameras we saw The Gruffalo!

Painting is Fun!

We love to paint in reception. We can choose and mix our own colours and have been practicing washing up our pots when we are finished with them.

Exploring Colour Mixing

We explored colour mixing in the messy tray. We worked together to choose two different colours and mix them with our hands. It was very messy but lots of fun!

Staying for Lunch - 9th September 2019

We enjoyed our first school dinner today. It was delicious!

Outdoor Learning

We love exploring the outdoor area in reception. In just the first few days, we have been cleaning, building, performing, counting, writing and lots more!

Our First Day at School - 3rd September 2019

We had fun exploring the reception environment and meeting new friends on our first day at school.
